A new idea for the reconditioning of sentry boxes that incorporates art and public transport was unveiled this morning. The city’s artists will bring color and life to the public areas used by the residents of all corners of the capital.
In a collaborative task, the Ministry of Mobility and Citizen Services and Ministry of Culture, Training and Employment will intervene at 50 checkpoints in the first phase, and complete the rest. After restoring the vandalized ones, “Arte Capital’ will add color and magic to them.
The project began this morning with the installation of a sentry box on Calle 38, near Alicura and the Gregorio Alvarez neighbourhood. Maria Pasqualini said, “This is to show appreciation for the collective service that is provided in our city today, but also the artists we have,” and she referred to the Arte Capital Program, carried out by Colorshop and Safiar.
The artist said, “The paintings have a specific theme and, since October is the Pink Month, all the artworks painted in this month are linked to the theme of breast cancer awareness.”
Officials considered this a proposal which aims to not only make artists feel part the project but to also strengthen neighbors’ connection with public spaces.

He said that every time an artist creates a painting, or a mural on a wall, they are taking care of themselves. We can see that the care that the artists take for the sentry box, the wall or the mural belongs to all.
Santiago Moran explained, in turn, that there were 300 total checkpoints where intervention was needed. We started by tackling the concrete checkpoints, and we will also tackle the metal ones.
Pasqualini agreed that the artist’s intervention is appreciated, and he said, “the mayor wants us to continue bringing cultural value to our neighborhoods, so we are implementing this project to achieve this goal.” This senseless vandalism and damage just for damage’s sake is also over. “It is a dual action.
