Salem in New Hampshire was cleaning up Monday, after a witness reported that the wind had ripped off the roof of an area car wash.
Damage occurred at Haffner’s Car Wash just after 11 am, off Route 28, during a period of extreme weather conditions in southern New England.
Josh Houde who works near the car wash that was damaged said, “It just came off like a sardine.”
Houde reported hearing a loud crash. He said that when he turned around, he noticed an Haffner employee walking towards him.
He said, “That was when we crossed the street and seen all those things.”
Later in the afternoon on Monday, crews could be seen at Haffner’s moving debris.
The owners of a now closed car wash told 7NEWS that they are thankful for the safety of everyone.
Houde added, “It could have definitely been worse.” There could have been cars or people parked there, because the place is usually busy.
Workers also removed a tree on Lawrence Road in Salem that had sliced through a house.
Many other communities in the area have reported damage outside of Salem.
Salem firefighters reported that heavy rains fell throughout the afternoon on Monday in Salem.
The owners of Haffner’s Car Wash told emergency crews that they had only just replaced the roof. Owners did not know when the car wash would be open again.
