Dragoslav Eki, Minister of Health in Bijelo Polje, handed the keys of the ambulance over to Bijelo Polje Emergency Medical Services.
The Emergency Medical Service of Montenegro purchased the ambulance under Project 88 with support from the Ministry of Health. This vehicle, which has an estimated value of EUR53.850 (excluding VAT), is designed to assist in the event of a nuclear, chemical or biological accident.

Eki’s speech thanked EU partners for support, and stressed that the healthcare system must be ready for any potential crisis.
Thank you for the excellent project, which will enable our Emergency Medical Service to be first in the world to adequately respond to nuclear, chemical, biological and radiological accidents.
The Minister expressed his hope that the ambulance would be rarely used. If needed, the ambulance would improve the performance of the medical teams who are frequently on the ground, protecting those in need.

The state-of the-art vehicle, which will only be used for CBRN medical emergencies, is not just a way to strengthen the capacity of the Montenegro training center to respond to disasters and provide emergency medical aid. According to the European Union Delegation in Montenegro the STCU is designed to improve the national and regional emergency medical service providers and training institutions by providing essential CBRN gear.

The management of Emergency Medical Service of Montenegro must ensure that the fleet is updated. It is crucial to meet EU standards in order to provide adequate emergency medical care. The EU Project 88 allowed this facility to be the only one equipped with staff and equipment capable of responding to chemical, radiological, or biological accidents.
Project 88 also provides CBRN training and protection equipment for the Institute. This will make it the first health care facility in Montenegro with such equipment. As part of this project, five instructors were trained to deal with chemical, biological radiological and nuclear incidents.
