The government awarded Sterts Theatre & Arts Centre near Liskeard cash as a recognition for its services to rural communities.
The Cornwall Theatre and Arts Centre has received PS300,000.00 to help rebuild the damaged centre after storm damage.
It said that it will use the funds to repair its theater after severe weather damaged it in 2022.
According to the government, this funding program was created “to assist community assets that are at risk of being lost”.
Sterts Arts Centre announced in April that it would be “with great regret” if the “unique” structure had to come down following extreme weather conditions and heat waves 2022.
According to the theatre, the next step in the project will be for a local architect examine a variety of possibilities to create a venue that can operate year round and is suitable for all weather conditions.
Nick Hart, the chairman, thanked the staff and volunteers for their dedication in ensuring that the facility continued to operate this summer, even after losing its roof, and for the work done by the team on the application submitted to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
He said, “I’m beyond thrilled.”

A new theatre, built to suit the rural environment of Sterts would also be more appropriate.
The design will be based on “durability and flexibility” and aim to inspire creativity in the audience, practitioners, participants and wider community.
This funding also allows the charity to hire a manager who will be responsible for achieving the goals set forth in the new business plan.
After a difficult time, due to the pandemic, and loss of canopy, Sterts is now looking to an exciting future, Mr Hart said.
Jacob Young, MP for Levelling Up, announced the award and said that the funding scheme is there “to empower communities to shape what matters most to them”.
