The theft of vehicles has hit a Chesapeake housing complex.
When she woke, she was shocked to find that her car had disappeared from her home.
Katie-Sue Metzel stated, “I noticed that the driveway wasn’t occupied when I came out to pick up my daughters.” My jaw fell and my neighbor asked, “Are you OK?” “My car’s gone,” I replied.
The criminals managed to open your locked car door and steal it. News 3 reporter Kelsey Jones asked Metzel.
Metzel stated, “I can’t believe this is going on.”
He received a call on Monday that was unexpected.
“Here I am, picking up my car today,” Metzel said. “Fortunately, it was recovered on Monday.” They probably found it somewhere in Norfolk. “The thieves abandoned it.”
The police are unsure how they found the car but, for now, can’t move it from the trailer park in Norfolk.
Metzel stated, “Fortunately, the exterior of my vehicle was unharmed.” I don’t believe there is any damage to my vehicle. They didn’t seem to have taken anything. “I’m worried they may have done something to my car.”
It was just a week-old and only had eight miles. He had some personal belongings in the car, including items he required for his health.
“I had my inhaler,” Metzel said. I used to have severe asthma, but now it’s all gone. “I needed other drugs for my autoimmune disease.”
Metzel’s car is one of the many that were stolen at Northwest Annex, a military housing complex in Chesapeake.
Unidentified neighbor shared with News 3 a video of two individuals looking at cars. The two people opened the car door while loud noises were heard.
He added, “It is crazy to think that anyone would want to bring a weapon into our community as a danger for us all.”
Metzel believes that despite everything she has been through, she was one of the fortunate ones as her vehicle was recovered. This tragedy, he said, brought the community together.
We’ve made a number of new friends through this. “People have knocked on my door to offer prayers and assistance,” Metzel stated.
He says that in the future he’ll park his car inside his garage, and that he’ll talk with his neighbors to find out what they can all do to protect themselves.
