Parents pulled their kids from Richmond County Head Start because they were worried that mold had exposed their sick children. They want to know the truth.

Parents and a former school teacher were outraged when their children pulled out of class and circulated a petition requesting the results of a recent test on air quality.
Jasmene Delaney enrolled her three-year-old child last August, but she is withholding the enrollment until she learns more.
She said, “I was told there is mold at the school.”
Catherine Jones, a former assistant teacher who is a strong advocate from the inside shared pictures with NewsChannel 6 and parents. What appears to be mold is visible on the walls, ceilings, and in classrooms.
All the children were sick. Catherin, an ex-teacher’s assistant at South Richmond Head Start, described the symptoms of a congested nose, coughing, and a running nose.
I have severe allergies, so my illness has increased. Amber McLaughlin, a mother of a 3-year-old girl said: “She’s sick all the time.”
Bill Mills, Operations Manager at the school, told us that his supervisor had told him that parents were concerned about mold. The school then ordered an air sample. Mills told us that the process took four hours on Monday, 10th October.
“He added, “…Contact your parents by Thursday. We wanted Friday to be closed because he was going to begin his work on that day.”
Parents claim that despite receiving a notice stating the doors of the school will close Friday October 20th, and open again Monday morning, the test results have yet to be received. Jones took her sample to be tested personally. Jones says the test came up with five types of mold. We didn’t meet the standards for elevated conditions, so we couldn’t call this a mold removal. John Ashton stated that they offered to clear out the ducts and clean them.
Mills said that parents would be informed as soon as results of the air-quality test are available.
Jones stated, “I am at a point that if I do not speak out for these kids who else will?”
