Many Kaufmanites were affected by flash floods at the end last month. Some residents had water seeping into their home, while others died.

Wayne Groom of Kaufman County, who lives near FM 1390 said that about 3 inches of water flooded his home. Groom, his wife and their kids had to be carried out of the house. Groom said that this was the second water infiltration he has experienced within a year since FM 1390 reconstruction and the culverts.
Floyd Choyce is a Mt. Arie Baptist Church reported the severity of the damages. The church is now moving to temporary facilities.
Becky Brantley is a resident of FM 2727. She stated that the long driveway, which stretches from FM 2727 up to Kaufman City Lake has washed away, leaving multiple cavities and large craters.
Brantley reported that the lake water at Kaufman City Lake was high in previous years. Brantley said, “It’s been high before” in regards to Kaufman City Lake and how high the water came. “I’m calling, and I am the one who says that you have to open the drainage, because the water is right at my house.”
