A strong storm that caused a heavy hailstorm in Posadas 10 days ago left the Itaembe Guazu area, the worst affected, with significant material damages. Over 700 houses were affected by broken glass, tanks, and blown off roofs.
Martin Burgos (delegate for the Itaembe Guazu neighbourhood in Posadas) provided information about the damage caused by recent storms to the houses in this area. He said that the rains were continuing and complicating the recovery process. Iprodha was crucial to the restoration of the roofs, tanks, and glass as promised by the Provincial Government.
Delegates clarified the assistance provided was not an insurance policy against total destruction as is the case in fire cases, but a fund of solidarity activated because of the scale of the disaster that affected 700 homes.
Burgos said that the increased demand for inputs and material after the climate change event affected the work of recovery. Burgos urged his neighbors to submit all the required documents, including the police report and photographs, to Iprodha’s office.
Burgos stated that around 700 registrations have taken place, with 80% of those relating to tanks perforated and the remainder being roofs damaged or broken. Burgos said that despite the weather-related logistical difficulties, progress was being made on the most urgent cases.
The delegate explained that it would take some time to respond, and asked residents to be patient. He also promised that the Institute would cover any costs incurred by those who could not do the work themselves. He clarified, however, that the cost of internal damages to homes as well as other costs must be borne by their owners.
“The cases that were most urgent, involving people with disabilities or others, have been given the highest priority, and I think they are almost resolved. We ask that if there is still a problem, you register and go to Iprodha, as it has already been resolved. “The schools and hospital were resolved quickly so they can function normally again as soon as practicable,” stated the delegate.
Burgos highlighted other difficulties as well, including the demand for insurance on homes and the delays in dealing with cases involving vehicles. In closing, the delegate reiterated his commitment to work on the recovery and peace of mind for the Itaembe Guazu residents.
