A 55-year old man died in another fire which occurred on Friday, January 25, in an elderly residence in San Martin in Mendoza province, located within the premises of the former Hotel San Pedro.
Jose Luis Castro died in a nursing facility located 45 km east of the province capital at the intersection between Route 50 and Eva Peron.
The remaining 25 elderly adults, who were still under observation, received medical care at the Perrupato Hospital. Seven officers, both police and firefighters included, were intoxicated and needed medical attention during the fire extinguishing efforts.
After receiving multiple 911 calls alerting the location of the fire, the tragedy was reported. Fire started in one room and spread quickly to the rest of the facility. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
